Book Review: Peter Pan in Scarlet

Peter Pan in Scarlet is authored by Geralidne McCaughrean and is the first official sequel to J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan. I haven't read Peter Pan, but I know the story well from the classic Disney cartoon movie and other books I have read. The sequel starts with Wendy, John, and the Lost Boys from the last book who returned to London, who are now all grownups and most of them with families of their own. They begin to have dreams about Neverland, with objects from Neverland appearing in their rooms after the dreams, and they deduce that something must be wrong in Neverland. But they are now adults, and they lack the faiy dust to fly to Neverland. They search for a baby's first laugh and find a newly born fairy, named Fireflyer, and they discover that the only way to become children again is to wear their childrens' clothes. Now suited with both pixie dust and the bodies of children once again, they head off to Neverland. Upon reaching Neverland, they discover that everything has changed, and Neverland appears to be growing old. I won't tell you anymore because that would be telling. It is a very fun book to read.
Funny snipet:
"Have you been saying your prayers?" she [Wendy]
demanded (a question every bit as scary as a sword waved in your face).
"Well, I haven't been saying anyone else's!"
retorted Peter.

Anno Domini 2010, November 11

Sooo, I have been very busy lately. Well, that's my excuse. Actually, I've just been lazy about updating this blog. I don't really have that much to write about really. I'm thinking about maybe posting one of my chaptered stories I've been working on here. I might make a page especially for it and update it weekly. But then I'll actually have to make the time to edit the story. It's called Silverline, about some anthropomorphic wolves and other animals. The only thing anthropomorphic about the wolves is that they can write, wear cloaks, and do a few other tasks that would usually require hands. They don't look human or anything creepy like that. The main character is named Silverline. It's sort of like a trilogy, I have the story split into three parts with chapters. It's interesting how a story can change so much over time. It took me several years to write the story, and originally the main character was going to be a crazy fox named Iron, but as the story progressed, a wolf named Silverline became the focus of the story. Hm, but that's an idea.

Wow. It's been over a month since I last posted. But at least this time I have a semi-good excuse. I've been working two jobs. After getting the fast food job, I also got my housekeeping job back again. It's been really tiring, especially on days were I have to work both jobs in the same day. But at least it gives me enough money to pay for college this fall, and it keeps me from wasting my time on the internet and computer games.

*Sigh* There are so many things I wish I had time to write about. Or I wish I could remember all the things of interest that have been happening this past month. Ah well.

Since college starts again in about a month, I reviewed my summer goals (which, quite frankly, I had forgotten about until today). I have finished three of my six goals and watched one of the sixteen movies I had planned on watching. So, I've pretty much only completed about 5% of my summer goals. Fun.

Well, nothing much has changed since I last posted. I still don't have a job. If I don't have a job in another week, I think I'll probably go up to my sister's to help her. I'm not too concerned about finances for next semester. I have enough saved up from last semester to pay for this semester, and the job I'll have at college will pay for the spring semester. God knew what He was doing when He allowed me to forget about my CD in the bank last year. If I had used it last year for college expenses instead of leaving it alone, I would probably have reason to worry. I've been doing some yard work and other chores to pass the time, along with watching Doctor Who and reading. I need to look into some Clep tests I need to take. Oh yeah, and I'm trying out a new look for my blog. Looks pretty cool, huh? I've also added more to the "Pretty Things" tab.

Hihi. Well, I'm still looking for a job. I put in an application to Hardy's today. Nothing much has been happening in my life. I got two books and a Christmas music cassette tape today at a thrift store. Church is tomorrow. Lately, I've been watching old Alfred Hitchcock movies. I've been wanting to watch more Doctor Who episodes, but when Mom's not watching movies, we're doing housework. If the sound worked on my computer, I'd use headphones while Mom watched her movies and watch my Doctor Who episodes.

Wow. It's been over a week since I last posted. Well, I'm home now and looking for a job. I've put in applications to a few places here in town, but if I don't hear anything for a few days, I might start looking in the next nearest town. There aren't very many places to work in this small town. I watched a very interesting movie at my brother's. It was called "9." It's a very philosophical type of a movie, along with being amusing and entertaining. At first glance, it would look like just a cute animation movie about nine, little burlap sack people and their fight against a monster machine, but it goes much deeper. I think I amused Holly with my analytical comments throughout the movie and even after the movie. My brother Harry also gave Holly and I several of his old computer games. We split them up between ourselves (though I am quite jealous that Holly got the cool Myst game, the updated first one). Now I have hours' worth of new puzzle/adventure games.
